LINGID

Big Alkali Lake is located 16 miles south of Valentine on Highway 83 and 4 miles west on road S16B. The lake is approximately 842 acres and has open access to all water activities and no outboard motor restrictions. Big Alkali Lake has facilities for camping, restrooms, water, boat access, and a nearby fish camp that has groceries, supplies, and cabins for rent.

Alkali was moderate fishing and produced everything from Northern Pike to large bluegill. We found the fish not particular to any special bait. Bass and Northern Pike were taken on spoons, Cranks Baits. Large Bluegill were taken on small jigs, spinners, and nightcrawlers. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission lists the lake stocked with Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Crappie, Largemouth Bass, and Yellow Perch.
