Duck Lake is located in Cherry County approximately sixteen miles south of Valentine. It is one of several lakes in the Valentine National Wildlife Refuge. Boating is allowed on the lake, but is limited to nonpowered craft and craft with electric motors.
This lake has 66 surface acres of water. We have found in the past that this lake is subject to particularly heavy weed growth. This makes fishing access from the shoreline very difficult. The Nebraska State Game and Parks Commission lists Duck Lake as containing Bluegill, Bullhead, Largemouth Bass and Yellow Perch. Minnows are prohibited as bait on all refuge lakes, but dead smelt is are allowed. Possession of fish not taken from refuge waters is unlawful.
Facilities at Valentine National Wildlife Refuge are primitive and limited to day use only. Facilities are available nearby at Merrit Reservoir.
