Elwood Reservoir is located north of Elwood Nebraska on U.S. 283 just south of Johnson Reservoir. It
is a 1,330 acre lake with an adjacent wildlife management area. Elwood Reservoir has primitive facilities only for
boating and light use. Overnight camping is not permitted.
Fishing at Elwood is very solid year round, but the fish must be worked for. Part of the problem with
non-consistent fishing was the variable water
level each time we visited the lake. Bank access is somewhat limited so if this lake is to be seriously fished a boat
must be utilized. Several good sized channel catfish were taken drift fishing with a simple nightcrawler and bloodbait
rig. Several bass were taken on various rubber worms and spinners, but the action was low, and the fish were not of
legal limit and were released. One good size pike about 30" long was caught and released. The average catch rate
was about 2 fish every four hours.
