Fort Kearny Lakes State Recreation Area is located in Kearny County, one mile northeast of Fort Kearny State Historical Park. Boating on several of the lakes is allowed, but only with nonpowered craft or craft that use electric motors. The park is very beautiful park and is well maintained, but does receive a very large amount of use.
The recreation area includes six gravel pit lakes that have a total surface area of about 6 acres. The Nebraska State Game and Parks lists the lakes as containing Crappie, Bluegill, Flathead Catfish, Bullhead and Largemouth Bass.
Facilities at Fort Kearny Lakes SRA include a wheelchair accessible fishing pier, primitive and Modern camping, fresh water, showers, picnic facilities, and a swimming beach.
