Philips Canyon Reservoir is located approximately 9 miles northeast of Elwood, in Gosper County, Nebraska. The Lake is 142 acres, and is a hidden treasure of Nebraska Fishing. It is owned by the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District, and is managed by the Nebraska State Game and Parks Commission.
The Nebraska State Game and Parks Commission lists the lake as having good fishable populations of Channel Catfish, Crappie, Drum, Walleye, and White Bass. We took white bass very easily on everything from crankbaits to live baits. As good as fishing is in this lake, it is an unimproved roadway to the lake, and is unmarked except for a rules sign well inside the actual park area. There are also no facilities in this area other than a boat ramp, and space for primitive camping. Facilities are available at Nearby Johnson reservoir, which is a short distance away.
