Shell Lake is located in Cherry County, approximately eight miles northeast of Gordon Nebraska. Boating is allowed on the lake but is limited to a 5 mile per hour speed limitation.
The lake has approximately 160 surface acres of water. Summer fishing is hampered by heavy aquatic vegetation growth. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission lists Shell Lake as containing Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Largemouth Bass, Pike and Yellow Perch.
Facilities at shell lake are primitive.
