LINGID

Lake Minatare is located 7 miles north of Minatare Nebraska in Scottsbluff county. It is a 2300 acre lake that is openly accessible and had excellent facilities for both camping and fishing. The lake is a Federal Waterfowl refuge, so it is closed to fishing from January 15th through September 30th.

Fishing in this lake is excellent. A good population of Striped bass and Walleye are plentiful in this lake, and produce several master anglers each year. Fishermen should note there is a 15" length limit on Walleye in this lake, and some areas may be closed to protect spawning. Most walleye and striped bass are taken in mid to deep water using minnows and shad. A graph or depth sounder is a great help fishing this lake, but shorefishing off the Dam is also very successful.

There is also a good crappie, yellow perch, and catfish population in this lake and are very receptive to nightcrawlers or small minnows. A noted spot we found for Crappie in mid-summer was the "West Inlet" side of the lake. The Nebraska State Game and Parks Commission list the following species stocked in the lake: Channel Catfish, Crappie, Smallmouth Bass, White Bass, Walleye, Wipers, and Yellow Perch.

Primitive Camping is allowed, and facilities are available for drinking water, picnic shelters, restrooms, and boat access. There are also several swimming beaches available, and the lake is accessible to all boats. It should be noted though, due to the status as a Federal Waterfowl refuge, special rules and regulations may apply to various activities and change without notice.
