Elk Lake is located 1 mile West and 3 miles South of Ruthven in Palo Alto County, Iowa. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources lists the Elk as a Natural Lake, covering 261 surface acres of water.
Motor boating is allowed on the Elk Lake, with no restrictions placed on motor size. Hard surfaced boat ramps are available for ease in launching and docking of boats. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources reports that Bullhead is the major species of fish available in the Elk Lake. Also listed as available, but not as common is the Yellow Perch.
Facilties at Elk lake are very primitive.
