    Prairie Rose Lake is located 8 miles south and east of Harlan, in Shelby County, Iowa. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources lists the lake as being an artificial lake, covering 204 surface acres of water.

    Facilities at Prairie Rose Lake Recreation Area include; picnic areas, public restrooms, hiking trails, a playground and both modern and primitive camping areas. No wake boating is allowed on the lake and the boat ramps have a hard surface for ease in launching and docking of boat.

    The Iowa Department of Natural Resources lists; Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Crappie and Channel Catfish as the major species available in the Prairie Rose Lake. Also listed as available, but not as common, are Bullhead and Flathead Catfish.
