LINGID

Gallagher Canyon is located approximately 12 miles south of Cozad, in Dawson County, Nebraska. The lake has approximately 182 surface acres of water, and is connected to Plumb Creek Canyon through the central supply canal. There is a 5 mile per hour no wake rule on the canal, and the canal stretches all the way from the spillway at midway lake to the main body of water at Johnson Lake.

The Nebraska State Game and Parks Commission lists the lake as containing good populations of Channel and Flathead Catfish, Crappie, Drum, Walleye, and White Bass. Anglers should note that there is a 15 inch length limit on Walleye and Largemouth Bass. The flow through this lake makes Gallagher Canyon fishing somewhat different than the neighboring lakes. The canal and the main channel can be trolled with a depth finder and many fish populations found. Circumstances may vary due to where and what types of fish are found. Walleye often inhabit the area down from the spillway at Midway Lake, and inlet area from the Canal at Gallagher Canyon. Drum and White Bass often move throughout the lakes in schools. The fish in general tend to move from structure to structure in Gallagher Canyon Depending on the flow, water level, and temperature.

Facilities at Gallagher Canyon are very primitive, with only 1 boat ramp and primitive camping available. Any need for additional facilities can be easily obtained at nearby Johnson Lake.
